Professor Clive

Last updated: 7 May 2026 Version: v1.1 (incorporates auth chat feedback — names Supabase auth cookies explicitly, removes speculative Vercel cookie row)

What this notice is

This Cookie Notice explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the Professor Clive service available at professorclive.com and clive.school.ai (the "Service"), operated by Alexander Brown, sole trader, trading as Professor Clive ("we," "us," or "our").

This notice should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They allow the website to recognise your device on subsequent visits or as you move between pages. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to website operators.

Other technologies, such as local storage and session storage, work in similar ways and are covered by this notice where used.

Cookies used by the Service

The Service uses only strictly necessary cookies. We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or tracking cookies of any kind.

The cookies set when you use the Service are as follows.

| Cookie name | Set by | Purpose | Duration | |---|---|---|---| | sb-<project-ref>-auth-token | Supabase | Stores your authenticated session so you remain logged in as you move between pages | Session-based, refreshed automatically; cleared on logout | | sb-<project-ref>-auth-token-code-verifier | Supabase | Used during the authentication flow to verify your identity securely (PKCE flow) | Short-lived, removed after authentication completes |

The exact cookie names contain a project reference identifier, displayed here as <project-ref>. You can see the actual cookies set by visiting the Service and inspecting your browser's developer tools (Application → Cookies tab in Chrome/Edge, Storage tab in Firefox).

These cookies are required for the Service to function. Without them, you would not be able to log in or remain logged in as you use the Service.

Cookies we do not use

We confirm that the Service does not currently use:

  • Analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics, Plausible, or any equivalent)
  • Advertising or marketing cookies
  • Cross-site tracking cookies or pixels
  • Social media tracking cookies
  • Third-party behavioural profiling cookies

Should we introduce any non-essential cookies in future, this Cookie Notice will be updated and we will obtain your consent before any such cookie is set, in accordance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 ("PECR").

Why we do not need a consent banner

Under PECR, prior consent is not required for cookies that are "strictly necessary" to deliver a service explicitly requested by the user. Authentication cookies fall within this exemption: without them, the Service cannot maintain your logged-in state, which is essential to its functioning.

We have nonetheless published this notice to provide transparency in respect of the cookies that are set.

Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View the cookies stored on your device
  • Block all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Delete cookies when you close the browser

Guidance for the major browsers is available at:

  • Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cookies-information-websites-store-on-your-computer
  • Safari: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471/mac

If you block or delete the authentication cookies set by the Service, you will not be able to log in or use the Service. The Service is not designed to function without these cookies.

Changes to this notice

We may update this Cookie Notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the date of any change. Where changes are material, we will notify registered users by email.

If we introduce any new categories of cookies, including non-essential cookies, this notice will be updated and your consent will be sought before such cookies are set.
